Competitive Cheerleading Tryouts
Tryouts for the competitive teams will not be held until Fall 2011,
but here is a list of skills we would like to see.
Varsity
We can take a maximum of 24 team members, with a maximum of 20
competing.
Tumbling: A minimum of a double toe touch flip flop and
round off flip flop is required for all varsity team members.
Preference will be given to individuals performing standing back
tucks/flip flop tucks, and a running series with a back tuck, layout, or
full.
Stunting: Flyers must be able to demonstrate flexibility to
perform a heel stretch, aerobesque, scale, and scorpion. They must
also demonstrate at least a single twist down cradle. Bases and
backspots must demonstrate their ability to perform their role in each
of these stunts with a variety of partners. Preference will be
given to individuals performing double downs from multiple single leg
stunts, bow and arrows (over stretch), and needles.
Jumps: All varsity members should execute jumps with excellent
technique: toes pointed, arms sharp, height, legs even with the
floor, chest up, and landing with feet together. Preference will
be given to individuals performing inverted jumps.
Motions: All varsity members should demonstrate motions with
sharpness and precision. They should also be able to learn a fast
motions sequence fairly quickly. Preference will be given to
individuals with exceptional performance qualities.
WE EXPECT TO HAVE ALL OF OUR COMPETING MEMBERS PERFORMING THE PREFERENCE
LEVEL SKILLS IN OUR ROUTINE. PERFORMING MINIMUM LEVEL SKILLS AT
TRYOUTS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL MAKE VARSITY. PLEASE
FOCUS ON DEVELOPING HIGHER LEVEL SKILLS.
JV
We can take a maximum of 24 team members, with a maximum of 20
competing members.
There are no minimum requirements for JV. However, all
individuals trying out will be judged in comparison with individuals
trying out for a similar stunting position. Potential is
incredibly important. We would like to see that you are either
working towards the minimum varsity requirements or meeting them.
Only freshmen and sophomores will be considered for JV.
Questions on what you can do to raise your skills to this level? Please contact Mrs. Corcoran, Ms. Presta, or Ms. Greco.
