| Lincoln-Douglas Debate is patterned after the famous one-on-one debates held across Illinois nearly 150 years ago. LD debates are often base on the weighing of values concerning the clash between an individual's rights and the obligation one has to society. A sample resolution illustrates this conflict. Resolved: That when called upon a citizen has an obligation to risk his/her life for the good of the country. The affirmative debater will argue to support the resolution. The negative debater will argue to negate the resolution. After a series of speeches and cross-examinations judge(s) decide the winner of the each round.
