The Fremd football team earned its first victory of the
season with a 14-7 defeat of Prospect. The win capped off a celebratory evening
as the 50th Anniversary Fremd Football team was introduced prior to
the kickoff.
“We showed a lot of character tonight,” said Coach Mike
Donatucci. “The young guys grew up and stepped up in the second half. I was very
proud of this team tonight.”
Fremd went down 7-0 to the Knights early in the second
quarter after a 4-yard touchdown run for Prospect.
The second half belonged to the Vikings as they rallied for
a pair of scores.
Sophomore quarterback Sam Beutler scored on a 1 yard run in
the third quarter. Sophomore Andrew Stark tied the game at 7-7 with his
successful PAT.
The third quarter was only six seconds old when senior
running back AJ McGhee scored on a 6-yard run. Stark converted the PAT and the
Fremd defense took over.
McGhee finished the night with 104 yards rushing on 25
attempts. Beutler was 9 for 16 passing for 127 yards. Senior Josh Jyawook led
the Fremd receiving corps with 4 catches for 54 yards and Greg Money caught 3
