Head Coach: Darius Sanchez

Coach Sanchez has been with the Vikes since 2006 where he started as a volunteer on the boys track and cross country teams. In 2007, he became an official assistant for both teams. 2011 will be his first season at the helm of Fremd Cross Country. During Coach Sanchez's time at Fremd, he helped the Vikings qualify several athletes to the state cross country and track meets. Additionally, the Vikings qualified for the 2009 state cross country meet for the first time since 1995. During his time at FHS, Sanches has been the recipient of the “ Dave Pasquini Award”.  This award recognized Coach Sanchez as one of the top assistant track coaches in the state of Illinois. Prior to FHS, he coached Cross Country at Monona Grove High School (WI), McFarland High School (WI) and coached track at Union Grove High School (WI) and McFarland. At McFarland High School, he coached with his high school coach, a Wisconsin legend and Hall of Famer, Bruce Fischer. With Coach Fischer, Sanchez helped McFarland to a fifth place finish at the 2004 Wisconsin Class II State Cross Country meet. As a high school runner, coach was a six time state qualifier in track and anchored his high school to a state championship in the 4x400 meter relay. Coach Sanchez continued running track at the collegiate level at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. At the UW, Sanchez was part of a very strong Big Ten track and cross country program.

At Fremd, Coach Sanchez teaches Freshmen Honors Biology, Biology II & Freshmen Connected Curriculum Biology.

Assistant Coach: Jim Aikens
Coach Aikens has been coaching at Fremd High School for over 20 years and during that time he has become well known as one of the best throws coaches in the country. During his time at Fremd, he has coached several (too many to count!) athletes to state medals in the discus and shot put. The Vikings under Aikens lead have won more MSL Track & Field titles than any other team in the league. Not only is Aikens an outstanding throws coach, he has been inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Aikens also has USA Track & Field Level 1 and Level 2 national certification.  He is a Level One USATF Lead Instructor and is a USATF Nationally Certified Official in the throws.  Coach Aikens served as President for the Illinois Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association from 2003 to 2005. This will be Aikens first season as an assistant with the cross team. His proven leadership, wealth of knowledge, and experience are going to be a powerful asset to the Vikes this fall and many to come.

Volunteer Assistant: Rich Bokor

We are extremely honored to have Rich Bokor volunteering with us this season.  His experience and insights as well as his passion are invaluable to this team.  Coach Bokor has been a successful track and cross-country coach for over thirty years.  He was the head boys track coach at Fremd High School during the 1980’s . He was also the head boys cross-country coach for many years taking the  1994 boys cross-country team to a third place trophy at the state meet.  Coach Bokor also had had many successful years serving as the head girl’s cross-country coach at Fremd H.S.  Many of the athletes under his tutelage have earned conference, regional and state honors throughout the years.  Coach Bokor was also the boys varsity assistant track coach for many years and has been the recipient of the “ Dave Pasquini Award”.  This award recognized Coach Bokor as one of the top assistant track coaches in the state of Illinois.  Coach Bokor was a successful runner at Depaul University where he earned many honors in both cross-country and track and field.  He is now retired from teaching at Fremd where he taught regular and advanced placement history where he received numerous awards for his teaching excellence.  Currently, Mr. Bokor serves as an advisor for student teachers and holds a position on the District 15 Board of Education.

Volunteer Assistant: Matt Winter Matt Winter has been working with the Viking feeder program, Road Warriors, for the past three summers. During that time he has been instrumental in helping the distance running community grow at Fremd. Matt brings a lot a enthusiasm to the team and we are very excited to have him work with the Vikes this fall.

Matt is currently getting his teaching license and will be student teaching at Hoffman Estates High School this fall.
