Coaches:

Mr.
Mark Anderson
Coach Anderson graduated from Niles West High School in Skokie where he was a
three sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. After
graduating from the University of Illinois he was hired as a social studies
teacher, football coach and baseball coach at Hoffman Estates High School in
1975. After 5 years as a baseball coach and 9 years as a football coach,
Mr. Anderson “saw the light” and got an opportunity to become Jim Swift’s
assistant cross country coach in 1984. Having become an avid runner
himself he continued on in that assistant’s role when Pete Rieff became
Hoffman’s new head coach. In 1994, Mr. Anderson transferred to Fremd High
School and became Mike Bruce’s assistant. In 2003, Rich Bokor retired from
Fremd after successful stints as both Head Boys and later Head Girls Cross
Country Coach. Mr. Anderson was then hired on as the new Head Girls coach.
“My highlights have been the wonderful and hard working athletes I’ve come into
contact with, imparting a love of running as a lifelong activity, and the times
we’ve been successful enough to qualify for the State Meet at Detweiller Park in
Peoria – a place I refer to as the “cathedral of cross country in Illinois.”
Mr. Joseph Marcin
Coach Marcin graduated from Hersey High School where he ran
cross country and track. While at Hersey, Coach Marcin was a state finalist in
the 800 meters. He continued to run cross country and track at Illinois State
University. After graduating from Illinois State
University, he coached Boys Track for a season at his alma mater, Hersey High
School. In 2008, Coach Marcin was hired at Fremd High School as a teacher
in the special education department. At Fremd, he has coached Boys Cross
Country and Track from 2008-2010 and is excited about having the opportunity to
coach Girls Cross Country for the 2011 season. Coach Marcin continues to
compete in running and triathlon events and has a goal of completing an Ironman.
