Head Varsity Coach:

Jim Weaver

2002-Present- 10 Years

Varsity Coach Jim Weaver took over the program in 2002 and led the Vikings to their 3rd consecutive Elite 8 State Tournament appearance.  In 2009, the Vikings returned to the State Final 4 under coach Weaver, and finished the season with a 3rd Place Trophy.  In 2010, the Vikings completed back to back trips to the State Finals, bringing home a Second Place trophy after losing 2-1 in the State Championship game against Sandburg HS. 

In 10 years under coach Weaver and his coaching staff, the Vikings have won 8 Regional titles, 3 Sectional titles, 3 Supersectional titles, and have 3 Trips to the State Finals, finishing with one top 8 finish, a 3rd Place finish, and a 2nd Place Trophy.

Before taking over the program, Coach Weaver served as the varsity assistant coach for 6 seasons.  During that time, the Vikings made 3 trips to the Elite 8 (1997, 2000, 2001) and finished 4th in the state in 2000.

Coach Weaver also coached girls basketball for 10 seasons with a 196-41 record at Fremd, but gave up coaching basketball to spend more time with his wife Laura and 4 children: 9 year old Ryan, twin 5 year olds Becca and Patrick (PJ), and newest addition, Emma.  In the past, he coached girls volleyball, and boys football, basketball, and baseball at Fremd.  In addtion, he is the announcer for home soccer and football games ("First Down") and Girls basketball games at Fremd.

Coach Weaver was named "AD's Fremd Coach of the Year" for 2004, the Viking Logue Coach of the Year for 2009, and the Illinois Coaches Association Coach of the Year for 2009 & 2011. 

Assistant Varsity Coach:  T.J. Valacak

 

Coach Valacak (pictured to the left with the sunglasses, along with Coaches Teschner and Vlaming) will begin his 11th season in the Vikings softball program, as he began in 2002.  Coach Valacak serves as the Varsity Outfield coach, and coordinates all of the Baserunning elements at the varsity level.  In the past, TJ coached girls volleyball and bowling at Fremd as well.   He and his wife Traci have 3 children:  Anton, and twins Danika and Tavin.
   
Varsity Assistant Coach/Sophomore : Christine Vlaming

Coach Vlaming ("Ped") is entering her 9th season in the Vikings Softball program (started in 2004).  She was a standout All State Pitcher at Barrington HS, and played in college softball at The University of Rhode Island.  She is a varsity assistant coach, as well as coaching the sophomore games, and serves as our roving pitching instructor as well.  Coach Vlaming also just completed her 3rd season as the girls varsity golf coach.  She is also the strength & Conditioning coordinator for the varsity program as well.  She enjoys spending time w/ her husband Jim, and newborn "Hank."
Junior Varsity Coach:     Josh Teschner

 

 

Coach Teschner started coaching in the Vikings Softball program in 2005 and is entering his 8th season.  He spent 2 years as a volunteer assistant at the JV level, before coaching 1 year as the sophomore coach, and is now in his fourth season as our JV coach.  Coach Teschner is also the Boys Varsity Golf Coach in the Fall, and has built them into a state caliber program.  He and his wife Cari have a son named Brady, and a baby girl named Cailyn.
Freshman Coach:     Rob Higgins

 

The coaching staff is RE-joined by Coach Rob Higgins who coached the freshman softball team for 11 years before stepping away for the past 2 years.  Coach Higgins is in charge of all things concessions at Fremd, teaches Math, and spends his time at home with his wife Jen and his 2 sons Henry and Quinn.
