Photography 1 and 2 -- Traditional Darkroom

In Photo 1, students learn the basics of composition, as well as darkroom printing, 35mm camera operation and pinhole photography.  Students assemble their own pinhole camera.  There is a photogram unit also.  Additionally, students are introduced to some of the most important figures of modern and contemporary photography.

In Photo 2, students continue with outside shooting assignments but the assignments become more challenging.  In the darkroom, students are introduced to many experimental printing techniques including negative sandwiching, double exposure and solarization.  There is a chemical toning unit.  Studio lighting is introduced in conjunction with the introduction of medium-format portrait photography in the lighting booth.  There is a field trip to the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago in April.
