Computer Use

Technology resources for
Fremd Faculty and Staff

Using the computers in the Media center is a great way to use school time to work on your Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet projects. Please read, learn the following in order to get the most of these programs and the use of the computers. Plus, they will save you a visit to an administrator. J

Display your ID card on top of the computer. We ask this to make sure you are a student here and to check that you have permission from your parents to use the internet. Hey, this brings us to number 2…

Internet Permission. To use the internet you and any other student at your computer must have a red “W” displayed on the I.D. card even if you are just watching someone else use the computer.

Please use the computers for school related work. The nice thing to do is to give someone else a shot at being productive.

Email is prohibited. If there are any personal or special circumstances, such as you need to download a Word, PowerPoint, or Excel attachment, please see a librarian or tech assistant. NetStorage is the new way you can access your files and put files back onto your H-Drive all from home! Please ask a tech assistant for information.

E-Locker or H-Drive storage-what is allowed? Simple. If your teacher authorized it and you need it for a class, it is OK. Otherwise, do not store it. For example, MS Office documents you create for class are fine. However, you should not have games, music, emulators, file sharing programs, movies, remote access programs, executable files, etc. When in doubt, ask your teacher or the Technology Coordinator.

Network Policy Please do not copy, install or download unauthorized software or turn off virus protection. Please do not attempt to use unauthorized software or to access systems such as network resources, control panels and printer settings.

Printing Send your print job to the printer only once. If the document does not print, ask for help. Computers use the same printer so have some patience; your document will print. Please ask your teacher about electronic options to printing. Also….

Printing limits There is a five-page limit, or 1 complete document when printing. Multiple copies waste paper and ink. Please use the copy machine for multiple copies. Printing of individual PowerPoint slides is not permitted unless you are printing a page with multiple (≥ 6) slides per page.

English language only-please! Please work only in the English language unless you have something to do for a foreign language class.

Protect yourself Staying away from abusive, obscene, threatening material on the internet and not accessing another student’s electronic storage, disks, or documents just makes common sense. Please don’t put yourself in a situation where an administrator would have to speak with you and your parents. Respect, Respect, Respect
