Media-rich Classrooms

Every classroom being used for summer school is a media-rich classroom consisting of:

  • A networked PC
  • VCR/ DVD player with remote control
  • Ceiling-mounted video projector with remote control
  • Document camera (used in place of an overhead projector unit). This device has a remote control, also.

The Ceiling projector, VCR/DVD, and Document camera remote control units must be checked out from the AV area of the Media Center. All three remotes will be issued in a white box and should be kept in the top drawer of the classroom teacher desk. Please return the remotes in the white box when summer school ends.

  • Some of the remote control units have an on/off switch. If the remote control is not responding, check for this switch on the upper right side of the unit.
  • The remote control will allow you to switch between displaying the computer image and the VCR/DVD player or document camera. The input selector buttons Computer, Comp1 or Data1 are used to select computer input and the Video button is used to select the document camera or the VCR/DVD player. A few models use an "Input" button to rotate between the VCR/DVD, document camera and projector.

Checking Out Audio Visual Materials

Materials such as videos, specialized A-V equipment, and remote controls may be checked out from the A-V area. An employee ID number is required before anything will be checked out to an individual teacher. Please be sure you have your ID number with you. The worst thing you could do is grab something and walk away without checking it out. If we are not around please come back later or have your items checked-out at the main desk in the Media Center. Thank you.

Using the Network and the Novell Log-in Procedure

The Novell log-in allows teachers to access our network, software, and the internet. through your classroom computer. A separate general technology log-in (described on the next page) is required to access our Online Lab Scheduler, Online Laptop Scheduler, and HelpDesk systems.

Current Fremd Teachers will follow the same Novell log-in procedure as normal.

District 211 Teachers (other than FHS) Please contact your school technology coordinator for this information.

Teachers from Outside District 211

An individual network account has been established for you. The account will remain active throughout the duration of summer school. You will receive information about your log-in at the Fremd Summer School Teacher meeting on June 9.

You will be prompted to create a new password after your initial log-in.   Please keep your password confidential.

From the Windows Start menu, select "My Computer" and you will see an H-drive named with your Username. This is your network storage area for files. At the conclusion of summer school your account will be deactivated. Be sure to keep copies of your files if you want to use them after summer school is over. We would be happy to burn a CD of your files for you. Just ask!

Computer Lab and Laptop Availability

Lab availability is at a premium this summer. The chart below illustrates courses assigned to labs and laptop carts and those available for general use. Teachers of the same course must meet to discuss your own internal use of the lab/laptop cart. Lab 128 and two laptop carts are available for general use this summer. Please see Carol Hodek in the Technology Learning Center (in the Media Center) to schedule these labs for use.

Lab Use Notes

  1. Teachers can reserve general use lab 128 and our two laptop carts for a maximum of two days in a row and two hours per day. Teachers may use this lab and laptop carts for an extended period of time if they have not been scheduled that day. Please contact Carol Hodek, x2762, for daily availability.
  2. Any class scheduled for a lab or laptop cart  should not schedule lab 128 or the two laptop carts unless they are available on a given day. Please contact Carol Hodek, x2762, for daily availability.

It is the instructor’s responsibility to monitor students and equipment while occupying the lab. Lab management suggestions can be found at:

  http://www.fhs.d211.org/departments/edtech/mbachrodt/computerlabuse/computerlabmanagement.shtml.

Tentative Computer Lab Schedule

  • All labs are scheduled for use 5x per week unless other wise indicated.
  • The schedule is broken into hours 1 – 4 in order to help me maximize lab usage. Teachers of courses that share a lab can discuss how they actually want to utilize the lab during the day.
  • *IFA will move to a laptop cluster or a science room should a low enrollment occur.
  • Consumer Education classes may not use lab 223 every period. Please contact those teachers for lab availability.
