ESL Philosophy

The instructors in the English as a Second Language Department in High School District 211 recognize our responsibility to provide language instruction and assistance to all limited English proficient students.

We believe it is our responsibility to provide courses to improve English language development, literacy development, academic achievement, acculturation and career development. We believe in the importance of being flexible and sensitive to the needs of each individual student in our ESL classes and ESL Resource, and to support and provide assistance in ESL sheltered classes.

We believe it is our responsibility to broaden our knowledge of ESL instruction through workshops, graduate programs and membership in professional organizations.

We believe it is our responsibility to promote and foster individuals to become life-long learners in order to assure that they become productive members of our society
