Jen Mertins—AM Coordinator
Jen Mertins attended Fremd High
School and is now back as a teacher. She attended Ball State University, in
Muncie, IN where she majored in Interior Design and Marketing. She worked
as a designer in the Chicagoland area for three years and decided to go back
to Northern Illinois University to pursue a career in teaching Family &
Consumer Sciences education. Jen was hired at Fremd High School in 2000.
She earned her master’s degree from Roosevelt University in May 2002 in
Teacher Leadership with and emphasis in Early Childhood Education. She is
married and resides in the Round Lake area. She has a two wonderful
daughters. Hobbies include
shopping, reading and spending time with her family.

Kristie Welke—PM
Coordinator
Kristie Welke attended John
Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. This is where she enrolled in
Preschool Lab as a student and loved it! She attended Eastern Illinois
University and majored in Family and Consumer Science and Business with
Teacher Certification. She taught at Oak Park River Forest for a semester
and then started at Fremd in 2002. She earned her master’s degree from
Roosevelt University in December of 2005. She and her husband reside
in Park Ridge and have one daughter. Her hobbies include spending time with family and
friends, shopping and working out.
