1st Quarter Grading Distribution Performances (one concert) - Homework - Sectionals - Playing Test - Daily Participation and Materials - Daily Posture and Performance - *Please see your online grade for point totals and more information
The Wind Symphony is Fremd’s top concert band and is primarily made up of junior and senior students. Membership is based on ability level and determined by audition. The ensemble performs outstanding upper level band repertoire expecting the highest level of performance. Due to the technical demands of the programmed music, t is assumed and highly recommended that each student studies privately. Students are expected to practice extensively every week to meet the demands of the literature being programmed. Failure to meet the demands of each instrument section will result in the student being removed from the Wind Symphony. Quarterly band grade will include the following: Homework assignments, concert and festival performances (as determined by Mr. Moore), dress rehearsals (if scheduled), three Pep Band games, Graduation Band performance, and six quarterly sectionals. Additional grading requirements are listed in the 2008-2009 FHS Band Handbook. Top instrumentalists in the WS are asked to perform in the Symphony Orchestra (which meets at the normal class time). If selected, the students are expected to attend all dress rehearsals and concerts with the Symphony Orchestra. It is the each student’s responsibility to inform Mrs. Caballero and Mr. Moore if they are unable to attend a specific rehearsal or performance with the symphony orchestra. If a student fails to attend any orchestra rehearsal or performance they will receive a grade deduction in their Wind Symphony quarterly grade. The Wind Symphony is directed by Mr. Moore.
Sectional Requirements for Wind Symphony: 1. Students are required to attend a 25 minute sectional once every two weeks with our FHS sectional staff. 2. Attendance at these bi-weekly sectionals are part of each student's grade. Students will not be able to make up missed sectionals - except if a student has a conflicting school activity that meets at the same time as the sectional (ex: make-up test). If this does occur the student must inform either Mr. Moore one day prior to the sectional. 3. Students who do not have a lunch or study hall must do a bi-weekly sectional on their own time, and submit the record using the online sectional form (located at the bottom of this page). If a student is absent during the day of a sectional they must also form their own sectional and submit the online sectional form. If the student is unable to find additional students for a sectional then they should practice for 25 minutes and still submit the online sectional form. 4. Wind Symphony students are required to turn in a total of seven sectionals per nine week grading quarter. Four sectionals will probably be scheduled into the rotating sectional schedule (as listed in #1). However, it is each student's responsibility to have two (or more) additional sectionals to meet the requirement of seven. These two additional sectionals must occur on different weeks.
