Awards and Recognitions
This is Mr. Moore's eleventh year as the Director of Bands at Fremd and forteenth year of teaching. Mr. Moore first taught junior high and high school band at Meridian Jr. High and Stillman Valley High School in 1999. He next moved to Harry D. Jacobs High School (Algonquin) where he was the band director for two years. He has been the Director of Bands at William Fremd HS since the fall of 2001. Mr. Moore earned three degrees from Northern Illinois University: Bachelor of Music Education (1998), Masters of Music (2005), and Masters of Educational Administration (2011). Mr. Moore grew up in Streamwood, IL and graduated from Streamwood High School in 1993. He went on to study music at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), and then transferred to the School of Music at Northern Illinois University. While at NIU he studied extensive world music, including North India tabla, West African drumming, Steel Band (98' Taiwan tour), Afro-Cuban percussion, and both Balinese and Javanese gamelans. He also performed in the NIU Jazz Bands and the award-winning NIU Wind Ensemble for three years. During Mr. Moore's tenure the FHS band program has grown from 160 to 270 students. The 2010-2011 school year is the sixth straight year in which the band program had at least 250 students enrolled in the four symphonic bands. The Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble have received numerous "Superior" ratings in both Illinois and out of state. As principal conductor of the Wind Symphony the band has received great acclaim and numerous honors. The ensemble was invited to play at the prestigious Illinois Music Educators Association 2009 "All-State" Conference (first band in D211 to be invited to this conference). In 2007 and 2008 the Wind Symphony was also selected for the University of Illinois "Superstate Band Festival" (first band in D211 to be selected for this festival). In 2007 the Wind Symphony was invited to perform at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic by Dr. Mallory Thompson (Director of Bands, Northwestern University) for a rehearsal/performance clinic. Mr. Moore also instituted the Fremd Viking Marching Band as an extra-curricular/volunteer ensemble for the past six years. In this format the VMB has been very successful, performing each season at three local marching band competitions and the University of Illinois "Marching Illini" Festival. Mr. Moore's passion as a music eduacator lies in researching the most current and outstanding wind and jazz band literature in order to find the best possible music for the Fremd Band program. In his free time Mr. Moore enjoys photography, reading, and spending time outside with his family. Under Mr. Moore's direction the FHS Bands have performed in the following events:
