INTRODUCTION
This unit is designed to help you gain a solid understanding of lifelong fitness. Living a healthy lifestyle requires proper nutrition, healthy habits and daily exercise. This unit will focus on the exercise aspect of a healthy lifestyle, specifically, cardiovascular exercise. You will increase your knowledge of fitness, understand the benefits of fitness and create a personal fitness program over the course of this unit. You will explore a variety of topics, such as, heart rate, target heart rate, body mass index and cardiovascular fitness. On this page you will find the information you need to complete your personal fitness program. All assignments (Fitness Level Form, THR Form, BMI Form, Fitness Principles Form and Personal Fitness Program) will be printed out and turned in at the end of the unit.

PROCESS
There are five lessons to be completed for your fitness unit. This unit is to be done individually over a five day period determined by your teacher. The lessons are designed to help you gain an understanding of lifelong fitness. By creating your own fitness program, you will start your path to living a healthy lifestyle. All lessons have forms that you will turn in at the end of the unit. Make sure you check the evaluation criteria for each form. Start with lesson 1 and follow all directions.

EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated on class participation (behavior, attitude, effort), knowledge of information in unit, daily worksheets, and personal fitness plan completion. Students must use the web sites and links to complete the daily lessons. Students will have all assignments completed on the day after each lesson. All assignments will be printed out, completed, and turned in as one portfolio on the day after the 5th lesson. Students should follow the assignment rubric for each assignment.

CONCLUSION
Maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is important for everyone. Staying physically fit benefits a person's heart, body composition, and wellness. It also helps people to achieve an emotional well being. Activity reduces stress and improves one's attitude. People who take care of their body and work to be healthy are improving their overall quality of life. Through the process of this unit, you have developed an understanding of cardiovascular fitness. Hopefully, you will see the benefits of exercise, and attempt to continue to exercise in some form throughout your life.
