MTV, Get Schooled and the College Board Launch Facebook App to Connect Students
with Money for College
MTV, Get Schooled and the College Board have launched “My College Dollars,” a
Facebook application that utilizes information from a user’s Facebook profile –
including age, gender and state – to connect students with targeted financial
aid opportunities.
VISIT THE MY COLLEGE DOLLARS FACEBOOK APP.
The My College Dollars Facebook App integrates the media and messengers that
students turn to most for information. It takes advantage of the world’s largest
social media platform to meet students where they already spend a lot of time.
The app helps them connect with information, guidance and tools that will enable
them to make smart decisions about paying for college. The tool is integrated
into a larger campaign to encourage college preparation and FAFSA completion,
taking place within hundreds of high schools across the country.
To promote the use of My College Dollars, music artists, actors and athletes
will inspire students and inform them about the campaign.
My College Dollars:
-
Connects students with the nearly $6 billion in available
scholarship aid and $45 billion in federal and state grants.
-
Uses information from a user’s Facebook profile to connect him
or her to relevant financial aid opportunities.
-
Features video tutorials from talent and other influential
experts on how to get the financial aid students need.
-
Connects to existing social networks for support, guidance and
sharing and tracking each other’s progress.
-
Integrates a calendar to help students track important dates and
milestones.
-
Features a dynamic “Ask the Experts” FAQ, in which selected user
questions will be answered by a panel of experts on a regular
basis.

Intel Talent Search
This year, Intel STS, a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), will
once again honor high school seniors with exceptional talent in academics and
scientific research. Since 1942, this prestigious, individual competition has
provided a national stage for our best and brightest young scientists to present
original research to nationally recognized scientists.
Please remember these important details about the competition:
-
Online Entry System:
This year SSP has launched a new online entry system that can be
accessed through our website. The system is currently active and
entrants may begin an application at any time. Please encourage
each student to request teacher/advisor recommendations, a
project recommendation, and a counselor school report as soon as
possible. All portions of the application must be submitted
through this online entry system with the exception of school
transcripts.
-
Project Recommendations: A project recommendation is required for
every applicant. This form replaces the Supervising Scientist
Form. If a student has worked with a supervising scientist, that
scientist must complete the project recommendation. Otherwise,
the person closest to the student’s research should complete
this recommendation.
-
Supplemental Forms: The non-vertebrate animal exception form is
no longer necessary; these questions are incorporated into the
online entry system. Sample IRB and Informed Consent forms are
available on our website and in the online entry system. Intel
ISEF or registered research institution forms for IRB approval
may be substituted for these sample forms if they include the
same information.
-
School Transcripts: Official school transcripts are the only
portion of the application that must be mailed to SSP. Please
encourage students to request these as soon as possible.
-
Deadline:
All portions of each entry must be submitted by Wednesday,
November 17th, 2010 at 8pm. E.T. This is not a post-mark
date. It is a receipt deadline by which you must submit
your online application and by which we must have transcripts in
our possession. Recommendations must be submitted online, not
simply requested by this deadline. Late and/or incomplete
entries will not be accepted.
