Chemistry S332 is a laboratory based course. Students can expect to be in lab at least one to two times per week. The type of lab experience varies from that of an activity, where a particular concept may be illustrated to that of an actual experiment where students formulate a hypothesis, follow or design a procedure, and collect data. Subsequent calculations and or graphs are done to "crunch" the data which will lead to a conclusion. A laboratory report is written after most lab activities that offers the students a chance to show what they have learned from the lab experience. While lab reports can be time consuming to write, they serve the main purpose of forcing the students to think about what they have learned.

When not in lab, students can expect to see a variety of teaching methods from their instructor. This may involve demonstrations of chemical phenomena, 'human" demonstrations of molecular behavior (always a favorite!), and projects involving some form of technology such as Powerpoint, the internet, video, etc. As a general rule, students are actively involved in the learning process. Full period lecture is rare.
